Yesterday, my daughter, Christin and I flew over to Nantucket for the day. We had a lovely time together which included a fabulous lunch at Straight Wharf Restaurant. The Gazpacho and Swordfish Tacos were really delicious. I could eat this lunch over and over again – this is a no-brainer. The Gazpacho included some lovely, small red grape halves, , a nice little bite of heat, and was the cool and refreshing treat we hoped for. A great recipe. Ok, so $9 is a lot for a “bowl”- more like 1/2 cup of soup and, even I balked a little – that was before I tasted it – just great! I have written to the chef to ask for the recipe after being rebuffed by the waitress, and have asked Roseann Tully to try for it as well – will keep you posted!!!!! All in all, a delightful day! I “co-piloted” over and enjoyed the 15 minute flight – loving, as always, the great views of the island.
Lunch was definitely the highlight of the day – the shopping’s gotten a little soft like the economy, but my biggest take-away of the day was that I want to be reincarnated as one of the “Nantucket dogs” – ALL of those lucky creatures who get to fly back and forth to Nantucket with their owners on an on-going basis. Seriously, these dogs live better than I do and I cannot tell you how many happy canines we saw making the trip yesterday! Most people had two dogs with them and it was seriously humorous to watch this privileged “group” travel in style. If you can step back a bit, you just have to chuckle!!!!! Life is just too funny sometimes. Of course, everyone just takes this for granted and it is merely the way things are there. All I can say is, these are some lucky dogs!!!!!!!
Last night I “threw” a peach into my impromptu Caprese salad – the one that is not composed – neatly sliced heirloom tomatoes and fresh mozzarella. When I am in a hurry or don’t have tomatoes which are large enough for good, thick slices, I just cut my tomatoes into wedges, cube the mozzarella, add a hearty dose of chopped basil, some minced red onion (I like mine with a little onion or shallot) and some sprinkles of balsamic and extra virgin olive oil. I have some great peaches right now, so I just cut one up and threw it in. It was delicious. Christin asked if we could have it just with the peaches and sans the tomatoes – I shall try this, maybe tonight. Honestly, I can’t think of anything I enjoy more than a perfectly ripe, sweet peach!
My new motto – Life, like a great new recipe, should always be exhilarating……that’s what I say, anyway!
Herewith some of the beautiful flowers of Nantucket, including my beloved Agapanthus!!!!!!!
This picture does not do these justice!
Made the S’Mores Cookies today!!!!! A big hit at our little lobster dinner party. Recipe from Downtown Bakery.
