Well, the jetlag is “on”. I am now trying not to go to bed at 7:30 and waking up at 3:30 with a blistering headache. Oh well, no complaints here, have to pay the price – my mind is reeling with……..
I thought about my post from yesterday and wondered if I was being kind of negative about Rome – didn’t really mean to be…… just observing and picking up the signals, so to speak. It really is a masterful place, of course, just a little messier. Well, no, they really can’t let the grounds of the Villa Borghese go and the Pianta Dell Orto Botanico…… Won’t someone start a conservancy movement and fix these places up, please? It’s a matter of pride. (Ok, who do I write to? Berlusconi??? Before he goes to jail again?)
Ok, off of that subject. I’ll try to do better and just follow the “When in Rome” motto…….
Anyway, here are some more of my pictures from Rome *:
this is a stunning place…….
more from Campo De Fiori – in my glory!!!! –
I don’t know why I have an obsession with food markets, but I do. I enjoy the vigor and energy felt therein. The vendors are proud of their offerings and the shoppers are eyeing everything critically and enjoying the search for the perfect purchases. I especially love seeing the jars of black truffles and am sorry I didn’t buy any. You’d get about 3 truffles per jar and they are indeed expensive. There was one little shop right near Trevi Fountain that had a big selection. Anyway, our morning at Campo De Fiori was glorious. The weather was perfect and everyone was enjoying the scene. Here is my little portfolio from there.
At Norcineria Viola:
and yes, this is mold growing on the Prosciuttos – not for the faint of heart!:
and the fragoline di bosco, etc…..
Ryan loves Laduree – every city:
And at the cranky fruit stand vendor’s on the way back from the Colosseum: Hint: Don’t touch the merchandise! We asked for 3 peaches and he gave us the 3 worst in the lot – not giving him any more of my business!
*my very favorite resource on/in Rome – Katie Parla – www.parlafood.com – for tours, books, recommendations – superb!

meanwhile, back in New Jersey this morning – it is cold! Happy to have these to come home to!
my little strawberry crop:
Clematis Jackmanii:
my favs – Lillian Austin – coming soon!
Loving my new Alliums – it would appear that the deer tried one and promptly spit it out! (don’t like onions!)
thyme is cold!
miraculously, hot house hydrangeas, still thriving ……
Well, that’s all for today – more of Roma to come tomorrow! Enjoy this beautiful weather!
