This year I had a special Thanksgiving – it was a day I got to watch the traditional Thanksgiving from afar. I am not at home, did not cook a single thing and did not even have any turkey at all. My home-cooked Thanksgiving Dinner was last Sunday, taking over 2 days to prepare. Thursday was just a simple day for relaxing with my kids and husband – the three people I am most thankful for in my life.
Being together, just the 4 of us with no tasks to accomplish, laundry to put in and take out, dishes to prepare, serve, wash and put away is a real treat – for it allows for a real “holiday” for me. Normally, I am passionate about experimenting in the kitchen with everything and anything I can think of. In fact, I have spent the last several weeks doing just that. But, in fact, the true definition of a holiday for me this year, was to do nothing but “be” with my kids and husband – at this time and place. Moments for us, just the 4 of us together are such a rarity, and I find that to have absolutely no distractions is the very best gift one can have. At this time in my life, I find this to be the most precious gift. I have learned to value the moments with just us. Especially as it concerns the kids, I get to see who they are, who they are becoming and share laughs, glances and love. What a wonderful treat. All worries were put aside for the day, and however myopic it is ………. “and I say to myself, what a wonderful world”.
