Confession: I adore farm animals of almost every persuasion. Left to my own devices I would collect them all in our yard and keep them as pets. If I didn’t think my husband would either have me committed or divorce me on the spot, I would have begun this years ago. The other day, I was going through some old pictures and came upon a few which included the Barry’s ponies, which used to live here, about in the paddock – that was nostalgic. I just wish I knew enough to take care of all these animals on my own – if I thought I had a chance, I’d give it a try. Anyway, since this is really not “indulg-able” in the current scheme of things, I am just going to celebrate my adoration for goats today and appreciate their offerings in the dairy department.
I am deep into the recipe collection phase of the pre-holiday season. This means I have not started my baking in earnest but am still looking around to find new recipes to try. I have a very exacting criteria:
Looking for :
- be new ingredient combinations I haven’t tried out before
- more exotic flavors, different spices, herbs, out of the ordinary fruits, nuts, condiments
Today, I am onto Sweet Goat Cheese Recipes. Here is my 2013 Recipe compendium in this category, so far – while they don’t all meet the criteria of flavor combinations and ingredients I haven’t used before, they are new for the trying in my kitchen:

Bear in mind that Goat Cheese pairs well with almost any fruit, nuts, herbs, and lots of other dairy and condiments, including marmalades. So, experimentation is definitely in order. I’d start out with the most seasonal of ingredients,( and some which aren’t) – oh well, lots of ideas here:
- pomegranates, currants
- key limes, blood oranges, meyer lemons, tangerines
- pears
- sweet potatoes as in sweet potato/goat cheese souffles – make em sweet and spicy
- molasses gingersnap goat cheese treats after Rococco Artisan Ice Cream’s flavor – yum
- honey
- maple syrup
- ginger
- pignolis
- mint, thyme, tarragon, basil
- tomatoes
- avocado
I’d also feel free to use goat cheese in a trifle, pancakes, scones, biscuits, cream pies, crostinis – sweet and savory……. – must think about these……………..
Well, have fun and send me your favorite recipes!
Well, thank goodness the sun came out today. Off to New York today.
