Welcome to extreme alliteration – inspired by Peonies!
Ok, so I’m certifiably insane this morning over these peonies – I admit it! But, yes, I do feel completely compelled to capture the amazing beauty that is literally unfolding before my eyes on this exquisite Spring morning! To me, it would be a shame not to do so! If this is not cause for celebration, well, I don’t know what is. And, I am indeed thankful for the combination of technologies that make this little venture possible. So, if you can bear it, enjoy! For, if not, one good rain or a short string of hot days and it will all be gone!
“Why to start with the month of May
it’s best some are known to say
a hint of crispness may remain
yet life, renewal, sing, refrain”
from “Months”, a poem I wrote circa 1985
Lest anyone wonder what is going on inside their nasal cavities these days – here is a little graphic I took this morning which will explain all:
top of my range this am – this is what’s in your nose and while duly annoying, delivers all sorts of wonderful gifts to us!
I have credited Alan Greenspan in this blog before for his famous coining of the term – “Irrational Exuberance” or more aptly in my case, perhaps it’s flat-out insanity. Whereas my family may, in fact, consider the latter more appropriate in nailing what comes over me in these short, but, oh-so-amazing months of the year – I do admit to going a little crazy. I get so excited by what’s going on outdoors every morning.
In the case of today, I am crediting all outside my door to the Pollen Party – which indeed creates the Peony Party! (No apologies here. As I say to my kids all of the time – don’t like what’s on tv? Change the channel! – I am well aware that I get a little more than crazy nowadays, but after the Winter we just had, I am all about it!)
Today is the last day of May! I’m not exactly sure if I am happy about this or not. I like June but I guess I’d like to stick in May for awhile longer. Can we call upon the multiplier-effect to get things, say at 2x for this time of year and then do a .0001x for those ugly months?) Things are really starting to move along in the garden and I am very much invigorated by what is going on right outside my back door.
It’s funny how certain physical events initiate ideas for a celebration, isn’t it? This has been going on down through history – where humans have celebrated pagan events, the sun, the moon, the seasons, rain, no rain, and on and on. Today, I am celebrating the long-awaited arrival of the Peony. Last week at Union Square I saw people leaving the market happily carrying large bouquets of peonies – I know not where from.
Here is a little selection of photos from the patio this morning:
does anyone remember making flowers out of facial tissues? This pic reminded me of this:
These look like amazing still life portraits to me – and, yes, I did get a little carried away:
Amazing Orbs of Beauty:
I guess you can see my hoarding instincts kicking in – I am recording (aka hoarding) photos in response to the emotional damage done to me last Winter! LOL
What’s outside your back door?
