“Fireworks” from Union Square yesterday
Crescendo – that was pretty much yesterday for me…….. Today is just a stellar day as I mark passing the 500 blog post line. Who knew? I guess I have a lot of flour to sift, a lot of dirt to dig, a lot of miles to go………
Yesterday, I trundled into the Farmer’s Market at Union Square. Honestly, September is the best month to take in the bounty of the growing season here in the New York Metropolitan Area – and yesterday just seemed like, well, it can’t get any better than this, can it?
Right now there is a combination of abundance of the two seasons of Summer and Fall, all at once. There are still some local blueberries, raspberries, and plums. There are still quite a lot of late-season peaches, and if you pick carefully, you may still be able to select some heavy, juice laden ones – you know, those before they become light-feeling and unsaturated with juice and begin to be mealy. There is still plenty of corn and the tomatoes are coming like crazy. But, just as you like to hold yourself right there at the peak of perfection, you can see the sneaking in of quite a lot of early Autumn produce. Early apples and pears are coming in like crazy.
While, if you are like me, this will make you wince a bit and try like the dickens to hold it all off for just a little while longer, you are gently warmed at the idea, far back in the corners of your mind of the first apple and pumpkin pies, of the sweet potato and butternut squash gratins…….
Well anyway, yesterday I found myself mentally returning to my visit to the Santa Monica Farmer’s Market, just one week ago, where I did indeed take in large quantities of fresh-picked strawberries, which are all but gone here now. You will note that I still have just a few on my patio:
I am still heartened to have these.
Moving on, you have undoubtedly noted that once I become transfixed with a particular image, usually flowers, I can’t stop taking photos. There are angles, light, color, formations, and all manner of juxtapositions. Yesterday’s 3 bunches of $5. Zinnias set me off. I couldn’t help myself. They were gorgeous.
Here is the array of shots I took. I think the colors are spectacular. I’ll have to research why some people respond so strongly to color.
I really can’t explain why I become so obsessed with images such as these. At this stage in my life, however, I’m just going with it. I’m not disappointed with the outcomes and no one has to understand, I guess, but me. I do love studying the colors – every which way……..
Here are my other favorite photos for the day:
Bernardsville – note the blueberries!
It’s stellar weather! Today is a day for grilling, sunning, planting…….. having fun with whatever you want to do! Enjoy!
