If flowers were dresses, what a wardrobe I’d have! (my something akin to: If wishes were horses, beggars would ride circa 1600s)
Question of the Day: Do flowers instinctively perform a shameless show? (pollinators know the answer). I think I can actually feel that this morning! They seem to be boastfully popping and parading in a state of unbridled glee. And, this brings me to the very same state. While I’ll sit here and be silly and think this is for me, I know that nature is at full-force in “this picture”, performing it’s inherent function in working to perpetuate its collection of species in a combined ritual of survival of the fittest with the hand of science in tow. Oh well, I’ll take it, no matter what the actual purpose is!
I’m sure most people are wondering how you can get quite this excited about a few little flowers. If you don’t get it, I obviously can’t explain it to you. All I can say is that after 20 years of gardening on this site, I’m finally getting to be pretty pleased with what’s being given back to me. I’m giddy as can be!
Finally, a complete 3 weeks past Mother’s Day, my peonies are beginning to open. They held on tight for such a long time – unprecedented, really. Many of them are still completely closed. But yesterday, this lovely, above, popped out to greet me. I strolled up to the stable last night around 8pm to survey my newest garden bed and was greeted by a shameless show of Harlow Carr roses.
We are rapidly approaching, now, the grand Summer Solstice, which occurs in about three short weeks. This is where I get to trying to screech on the brakes and say “STOPPPPPPP”!!!!!!!!! “WAITTTTT”……..
